Thinking about starting your own business????? Read this first and save yourself a bunch of money.
DEPARTMENT OF MOTOR VEHICLES
Phone number for all LV offices 486.4368
www. dmvnv.com (many forms are available on line.)
If you go prepared, that means you bring everything they want the FIRST time, it will go a lot faster. They usually open up a 8 AM, but if you get in line by 7 or 7:30 you will get through MUCH faster. They frequently come outside before opening time and make sure those in line have all of the things they need. It is a very nice gesture and can save you a lot of waiting time if you did forget something. Things you will need for most any service. Just take it all and it will save you a lot time.
BRING:
Out-of-state driver’s license (if you have one) Proof of Nevada insurance
Proof of Social Security number Proof or Nevada residence
Smog check with PASS on it Car title, proof of ownership or a Form 17-A Money
Fix your hair; they will take your picture!
HANDICAPPED PLATES Proof of disability filled out and signed by your Doctor. You must use the form the DMV provides. It is a real good idea to take a couple of photocopies of the form BEFORE you turn it in to the DMV, to carry with you. Use to get a free National Park pass, if your disability is permanent. It is available in any DMV without going through the line or it is on-line. I am disabled and I had handicap PLATES. I removed them. Now I use the placards because I feel it is safer for me as a woman, especially when traveling alone, which I love to do, even camp.
About that little box that says “DONOR.” Will you check it? I have. It’s the gift of life. It’s “hesed.” It’s a “Mitzvah.” It might save the life of someone you love.
While you are there you might as well get a copy of your driving record. You could need it for a job. It used to be free but at least it is cheap.
Veterans may apply for a discount on their tags through the assessor’s office. Take your DD214 and Nevada Driver’s License to the Assessor’s Office, 500 S. Grand Central Parkway. (Maximum savings is $50.00) Or go on line to get the form at www.co.clark.nv.us/assessor/assessor.htm
Renewals: Driver’s license every 4 years, new photo every 8 years. Expires on your birthday. Auto registration, yearly, Smog certificate, yearly, except for brand new cars. Change of address, within 10 days.
New residents have 45 days to obtain their new license.

Reporters interviewing a 104 year-old woman:
“And what do you think is the best thing about being 104?” the reporter asked.
She simply replied, “No peer pressure.”
THINKING ABOUT
STARTING YOUR OWN BUSINESS???
Sometimes retirement turns out to be soooooo boring that you just HAVE to find something to do. Sometimes that something turns into making a long time dream into a reality AND a profitable business. Small businesses make America work, better than anything else. So . . . why not “do your thing?” That is part of what this book is about. This book is “my thing.” I’ve been to all of the places I am referring you to and more. You probably already have an idea of what you would like to do, but if not, do what Thomas Edison said “…find something the world needs and build it.(Or do it.)” JUST DO YOURSELF A FAVOR, RIGHT UP FRONT. GET PROFESSIONAL HELP STARTING OUT. THAT IS THE EASIEST WAY TO NOT HAVE TO “START OVER, OR THE DIFFERENCE IN BEING ABLE TO AFFORD TO START OVER.” Sneak in the back door of the business, don’t try to make a big splash. It’s cheaper that way! That means BE CAREFUL with your money!
There is a LOT of free help for starting a small business in Nevada, USE IT!
